The Monash-ENGIE Alliance
The Alliance was established in 2021 and is the result of a deep recognition of a shared vision across both organisations: to accelerate the global transition to net zero emissions, together. Unique to this long-term partnership is the ambition to not only deliver net zero emissions at Monash, but also partner in research, education and translation. This is informed by an understanding that the pathway to net zero is not yet fully understood nor are capacities fully developed. A variety of projects have commenced to catalyse the Alliance program which aims to develop new solutions, build capacity and address barriers to help others on the net zero journey.
Monash and ENGIE have formed a partnership built on our strengths, to tackle a global challenge - reducing carbon emissions to net zero in time to limit the catastrophic and costly impacts of climate change in order to protect the world’s ecosystems, societies and economies.
The Monash-ENGIE Alliance is a key part of the Monash University Net Zero Initiative.
Monash University, established in 1958, is Australia’s largest university with international presence across four continents. With more than 70,000 student enrolments and over 150 buildings spread across four domestic campuses, Monash is a significant consumer of energy. Monash is taking ambitious action to address the problem of climate change by transitioning to a 100% renewably powered future, removing carbon emissions from our Australian campuses by 2030 through the Net Zero Initiative. Through applied research and industry partnerships, a prototype to a renewably powered future is being developed at Monash that can be tested and deployed around the world.
ENGIE is a global company that generates annual revenues of over A$100bn and has over 160,000 employees in more than 70 countries around the world. ENGIE has been assisting universities, cities, airports and hospitals around the world to embrace the new energy world of Decarbonisation, Decentralisation and Digitisation. ENGIE’s strategy is to be a world leader in the Zero-Carbon transition “as a service”.
