Monash Innovation 2024 Year In Review Report: A thriving global innovation ecosystem
The Monash Innovation 2024 Year In Review Report is now available. The report highlights another exciting year of growth and development, bringing Monash closer to the ambitious vision of shaping the future through research, translation and innovation.
Dr Alastair Hick, Chief Commercialisation Officer, introduces the 2024 Year in Review Report, highlighting our ambition to build a world-class, global innovation ecosystem with Monash at its heart - and we are thriving.
“The growth in Monash’s research commercialisation is fuelled by a strong innovation ecosystem, including thriving place-based hubs and centres, structured programmatic support, expert guidance and increased access to investment capital. Together, these elements are positioning us as a leading force in research translation and impact,” said Dr Hick.
2024 saw significant commercialisation outcomes totalling AU$7.13M as a result of Monash Innovation activities negotiating new licensing deals, and equity agreements in biotech, medtech, and energy. The report also highlights the growing engagement from the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences faculties to explore pathways for translating research.

The report introduces the new Monash Innovation Impact Framework, illustrating how we achieve impact through the translation of innovation into new solutions, products, and services. It guides performance evaluation, strengthens understanding of our role within and beyond the University, and demonstrates the substantial impact of our initiatives.
Included in the report are Impact Case Studies showcasing the real-world impact of Monash’s spinout and startup innovation efforts, including: Seaport Therapeutics, ElectraLith, Myostellar, Phrenix Therapeutics, Actimo Labs, Signbank and Focus Bear.
