How to get the most out of Open Day

With so much going on at Open Day, we understand that you might not really know where to start.

Do you join a course info session first? Do you take a tour of the facilities? Do you check out where the entertainment, food and giveaways are?

So, we’re making it easy for you. Here are some ideas for where to go, what to see, who to talk to, the best questions to ask, and general tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your Open Day experience.

Before you come to Open Day

We’ve got a few tips to help you feel prepared before Open Day, so you know what to expect and don’t feel overwhelmed on the day.

Each of our Open Days is slightly different, as each campus will generally promote the courses it offers. It’s ok if you don’t know what course you want to study. Take a look through our courses and see where they’re offered. Or come along to Clayton Open Day, where all ten study areas will be represented, and you can explore all of your options in one place.
Once you’ve chosen which Open Day (or days!) you’re attending, make sure you register. We’ll send you more details in the lead-up to the day, so you know what’s on and where to go.
You can do this easily from your confirmation email once you’ve registered. You’re busy people, and we’d hate for you to miss out because you weren’t sure what day it was on!
Note what you might be interested in doing – or, better yet, add them to your planner on the What’s On at Open Day page. Remember, there’s no need to schedule your day down to the minute. Many of our activities are repeated throughout the day, so you can explore at your own pace and access key information at any time.
Check our Open Day website for your transport and parking options. If you’re driving, make sure you know where to park before you get here. Our digital maps can help you see which car park is best for you, depending on where you want to start first.

When you’re at Open Day

If it’s your first time attending an Open Day, you’ll quickly learn that there are so many different things to see and do, so here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the day once you’re here.

Open Day can get busy, so we recommend leaving enough time to arrive on campus so you can spend most of your time roaming, meeting staff and students, and enjoying the vibes.
The map is the most helpful tool you can get, along with a tote bag for collecting any freebies along the way. We’ll be handing these out at each welcome tent when you arrive. Then, just set off. If you’ve never been to campus, it’s a great adventure. You can never go the wrong way. If you go left, you’ll find something fun. If you go right, you’ll find something different.
If you’re coming to Open Day with an open mind, then you’re going to have an even better experience. Look at every booth. Talk to different people. See where the facilities are. Dive into hands-on activities. Even if you know you want to study something specific, still come to Open Day with an open mind because you never know what you might find. Get ready for a day of exploration; you may just discover something new.

Make the most of your day by speaking with the right people, depending on the advice you’re after.

Hear directly from the people who’ll be teaching you. They’ll provide you with insights into the topics you’ll be studying, including any specialisations, career opportunities, overseas study options, and more.
Speak with our staff to learn more about the ins and outs of our courses. They’ll provide you with advice on our course offerings, including prerequisites, entry requirements, course structures, and more.
Get the inside scoop on exactly what it’s like to be a student at Monash. They’ll provide you with an idea of what their days look like, how they balance work, life and study, what clubs and societies are on offer, and more.
Speak with our staff to learn how we can best support you, both before you apply and once you start studying with us. They’ll provide you with information about scholarships, pathway options, mentoring programs, disability support services, international opportunities, living on campus, and more.
