Quality and Standards
Quality and Standards play a key role in maintaining Monash University’s regulatory compliance for registration as an Australian University.
Monash University is committed to ensuring the quality, excellence, diversity, and innovation in our courses for all students and is authorised by Australia’s independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education, the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency TEQSA to self-accredit its courses.
In February 2020, TEQSA confirmed the renewal of Monash’s provider registration until February 2027. The University’s re-registration with TEQSA acknowledges that it meets the Higher Education Standards and ensures that we can continue to operate as a higher education provider for a further seven years, the longest period of re-registration possible under the TEQSA Act 2011. Monash’s status as a registered higher education provider in Australia is reflected in the National Register.
The University complies with the legal framework which governs Australian higher education, including the following legislation and codes:
- Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011
- Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021
- Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act)
- National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018
- Higher Education Support Act 2003 (HESA)
- Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
The University also complies with the state legislation under which it was first established and its own statutes and regulations under which it operates. For more information about our Strategy and Governance visit About Monash.
Quality Audits and Offshore Locations
Monash University’s offshore locations are subject to quality audits by in-country quality agencies such as the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) in Malaysia. In 2010, MQA awarded self-accrediting status to Monash University Malaysia Campus. In Malaysia, Monash University is awarded a 6-star SETARA rating by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. In accordance with Indonesia Ministerial Regulation No. 6/2023, Monash University Indonesia operates in accordance with the Monash Regulatory Framework, along with regulations as directed by the Indonesian Government.
Third party arrangements
Monash University has collaborative partnerships with other organisations in Australia and other countries to manage or deliver units or courses on our behalf. These partnerships are quality assured by Monash University to ensure that students studying with the partner organisation have an equivalent learning experience.
