What is an infographic?

An information graphic, infographic for short, is a combination of data and textual information presented in a visual form. It aims to communicate complex information and relationships between ideas in a way that is easy to interpret. Infographics have a wide range of applications from summarising research, presenting findings and data, to demonstrating processes. Infographics are now even being used by some academic journals to provide an overview of their articles. An infographic may be a standalone assessment task, or could be embedded within another task. Infographics can also be a powerful way to summarise course material, and to help aid revision.

Considerations

When you are starting to design your infographic, there are a few questions you should ask yourself before deciding on a particular software.

  • Are you confident using this software?
  • Have you done enough planning to start designing?
  • Can you download the infographic in a file format that is allowed for assessment? (e.g. file type, image size, water marks, quality limitations)
  • Can you work collaboratively using this software?
