Our research translates sleep and circadian science into practical solutions that improve health, productivity, safety and wellbeing. We focus on sleep and circadian timing as mechanisms to improve mental health, physical health and wellbeing in a range of contexts including workplaces, clinics and other real-world settings.

Key research themes

Sleep loss, circadian disruption and health

We study how poor sleep and misalignment between the circadian clock and the external environment affect health, wellbeing and quality of life. Our work helps quantify the health burden of poor sleep and shift work, and to inform public health policy.

Shift work, safety and performance

We focus on people who work outside traditional daytime hours, including healthcare workers, first responders, transport workers and other safety-critical groups. Our research examines how work schedules, light exposure and sleep timing influence alertness and safety, and tests practical strategies to help improve performance.

Circadian timing, melatonin and light

We explore how the circadian system regulates sleep and daily functioning. This includes research on melatonin, melatonin agonists and the effects of light on circadian timing, alertness and disorders such as delayed sleep-wake phase disorder.

Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing

Through partnerships with industry and government, we translate research into scalable workplace interventions and tools that improve mental health and wellbeing.

Translational pathways

We develop and test digital tools and other real-world approaches that bring circadian science into clinical practice and workplace settings.
