Staff-Student Liaison Forum

The Staff-Student Liaison Forum (SSLF) is a group of students and staff which meets regularly to discuss issues relevant to the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics.

Membership

The SSLF consists of representatives from LLCL majors and year levels, selected on a yearly basis.

Students in the SSLF are points of contact for LLCL students who wish to provide feedback or discuss concerns with LLCL units, majors, and courses. The SSLF also organises events and focus groups for students in the School.

Purpose

  • To provide rigorous scrutiny and peer review of academic activities, carried out independently and separately from the staff who are directly involved in those activities;
  • to provide academically-informed advice to assist corporate decision making and monitoring;
  • to provide a means of interaction between students, academics and administrators;
  • to provide a means for students to make comments about their academic and other experiences in the School;
  • to report regularly to school, faculty, and university leaders;
  • to facilitate a “culture of engagement” at school level, treating students as partners in the process of university management;
  • to value student contributions, acknowledging the diversity of the student population;
  • to ensure that students understand the university and that they have sufficient resources to benefit from and enjoy their experience at university; and
  • to develop students’ negotiation, leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
