Cécile Parrish Memorial Fund

The Cécile Parrish Memorial Fund was established in 2006 by the trustees of the late Renée Parrish of Singapore, in commemoration of her daughter Cécile, a onetime member of the former Department of English at Monash University. Cécile Parrish is also known for her collection Poems, published posthumously.

Since the Fund's establishment, Monash University has been administering the Cécile Parrish Memorial Scholarships in English Literature, which enable outstanding doctoral scholars to pursue a full-time program of research on a topic related to the critical study of English (including English language) literature.

The Fund was recently expanded to support the appointment of an inaugural Cécile Parrish Memorial Chair of English Literature in the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, as well as providing additional postgraduate scholarship opportunities and, in the future, academic exchange programs with Monash partner institutions.

The Cécile Parrish Memorial Chair of English Literature coordinates activities including recruitment and supervision of postgraduate scholars and leadership of a research program that aligns with the Fund’s aim of advancing the study of English Literature, especially the settler and colonial realities of societies in the Asia Pacific region, in recognition of Cécile Parrish’s birth in Malacca, study at the University of Malaya, familial home in Singapore, and work in Australia.
