Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarships in English Literature
Established by the trustees of the late Renee Parrish of Singapore, in commemoration of her daughter Cecile (a onetime member of the Department of English at Monash University), this fund provides for scholarships specifically in the critical study of English (including English language) literature. The scholarship/s will be awarded to enable a doctoral scholar, judged to demonstrate academic excellence, to pursue a full-time program of research.
There are two different scholarships available under this scheme:
- Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Research
- Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Research Excellence
The scholarship terms and conditions
The terms, conditions and level of the Scholarship for Graduate Research will be the same as those for a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend. The scholarship would be a Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Research.
The terms, conditional of the Scholarship for Research Excellence will also be the same as those for a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend, however the scholarship will be paid at a higher rate of $35,000 p.a. (pro-rata)
The selection criteria will be that the applicant demonstrates academic excellence and fulfil the criteria for PhD admission at Monash University. On average one Graduate Research Scholarship will be provided annually, and one Research Excellence Scholarship will be provided every 3.5 years. Scholarships will not be awarded in the case that no applicant meets the criteria. In this case an extra scholarship/s may be awarded in the following year.
The application process will be the same as applying for a RTP scholarship (including an expression of interest) with the additional statement that attests to the scholarship’s value in facilitating the undertaking of the degree that would be difficult or impossible without the award of the scholarship.
A selection committee will be convened annually to determine award of the scholarship/s. The selection committee for the award of the scholarship/s will consist of one senior academic staff member from English Literature, the Director of the Literary & Cultural Studies Graduate Research Program, the Coordinator of the Literary & Cultural Studies Graduate Research Program and a professorial nominee.
