Monash Arts Writing and Publishing Workshop - Feburary 2-6, 2026
Monash Arts is inviting Expressions of Interest from current PhD candidates, Early and mid-Career Researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences to participate in an intensive 4-day writing residency to enhance your skills in preparing, writing and getting an academic article published in a major academic journal.
You will receive peer mentoring and supervision from internationally recognised Monash academic experts in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The academic writing and publishing workshop will be held at Monash University, Indonesia Campus, located in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) City in southwest Jakarta – part of a burgeoning, modern and sustainable city centre.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The workshop’s aim is to mentor graduate researchers along with early and mid-career researchers from Monash University and Indonesian partner universities to enhance their skills in academic writing and publishing. The workshop is comprised of a four-day residency at the Indonesia campus of Monash University. Individual sessions address the various stages of the article writing process from planning, to drafting, to writing abstracts and responding to referees’ reports and comments.
In addition to collaborative sessions, candidates are also provided with dedicated periods for writing, working individually with academic mentors, exchanging drafts, and providing their peers with constructive feedback.
Learning outcomes
Successful completion of this activity will allow participants to:
- Identify quality and/or appropriate journals and/or publishers for their written outputs.
- Develop skills on how to provide, receive and respond to constructive criticism from peers and reviewers.
- Enhance participants’ communications skills and build confidence in their abilities to present their findings to an academic audience.
- Foster international and multidisciplinary research collaborations.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled as a doctoral candidate or employed as an early or mid-career researcher either in the Faculty of Arts, Monash University, or at an Indonesian University.
- At the time of application, have successfully completed the confirmation of candidature milestone, but not yet presented for the Final Review milestone (doctoral candidates only).
- Outline a developed and achievable writing proposal for a journal article with a recognised quality commercial or university press publisher
- Have the support of their Main Supervisor or Academic Performance Supervisor.
