Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub Melbourne and Metropolitan Korean Studies Biennial Meeting 2023
As a central part of MUKSRH’s strategy of promoting the Visibility of Monash Korean Studies across Monash, Melbourne and the Asian Region, we hold a Monash University Korean Studies Biennial meeting during which we invite Melbourne-based Koreanists and academics from other parts of Australasia to discuss their current Korea-related research and the future of Korean Studies regionally. 2023’s event was held at Monash University’s centrally located downtown building for the very first time. The event was opened by his excellency the Republic of Korea Consul-General to Melbourne Mr Changhoon Yi. Monash University speakers Gil-soo Han, Andrew David Jackson, Daniel Pieper and Maria Rost-Rublee were joined by Deakin’s Danielle Chubb, Nicola Fraschini (UniMelb) and keynote speaker Roald Maliangkay (ANU) in providing detailed accounts of their latest research. The full-day workshop ended with a round-table brainstorming session about ways to promote Korean Studies in the region. Seventeen people were in attendance. Our thanks go out to all those who helped organize this event, particularly Lucien Brown and MUKSRH Hub Coordinator Sandy Nguyen.
This work was supported by the Core University Program for Korean Studies through the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and Korean Studies Promotion Service of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS-2023-OLU-2250001).
