Report for 2nd Victoria Korean Language Teachers Forum 2025

Cohosted by the Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub and the University of Melbourne Korean Studies, the 2nd Victoria Korean Language Teachers Forum was held at Monash University Clayton on September 9th, 2025.

The forum was open to Korean Language teachers across Victoria to gather and share about their current activities/afterschool programs and challenges in Korean language education, followed by ideas that could help strengthen and expand Korean language programs. We were honoured to have Professor Jo Winnings (Head of LLCL, Monash University), Mr Oh Jin-Kwan (Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Melbourne) and Ms Kwon Ji-Young (Director of the Korean Education Centre in Sydney) as our special guests to open the event with their welcome message.

The first part of the forum focused on successful stories of expanding the offer of Korean Language through after-school programs and other initiatives at Hampton Park Library, Collingwood College, and Queensland State Library. Part two involved small table group discussions which focus on the agenda of online platforms for Korean learning.

The event was a great success with a turnover of over 30 guests who were very enthusiastic and passionately sharing ideas during the Q&A and group discussions. We would like to offer our thanks to our Korean Studies members Hyein Cho, Daniel Pieper, Sandy Nguyen as well as the Korean Studies team from University of Melbourne Nicola Fraschini and Hyunmi Kim for organising and hosting the event. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the guests and student volunteers who joined us at the event.

This forum is supported by the Core University Program for Korean Studies through the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and Korean Studies Promotion Service of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS-2023-OLU-2250001)
