Monash University Korean Studies at the Australian Korea Veterans Association of Australia Photoshoot
On Saturday April 22, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Melbourne, in collaboration with the Australian Korea Veterans Association of Australia (KVAA) organized a Korean War veterans photo shoot at the Kew School of Dance as part of a series of events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the 1950-1953 conflict. Over 50 Korean War veterans from the Victorian region and their relatives were in attendance. In addition, dignitaries from the Melbourne Korean community gathered to give their thanks to the Australian Korean War veterans past and present for their services to the defence of freedom and democracy on the Korean Peninsula. Andrew David Jackson and Daniel Pieper representing Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub also participated in the event, addressing the gathering and collecting recollections from the veterans for the new Korean history unit ATS3947 The Making of Modern Korea: History and Development starting in Semester 2, 2023.
