Digital Engineering Short Course and Site Visit – 21 January 2026
A rare collaboration between academia, industry, and professional associations brings together a one-day workshop focused on the timely topic of automation and digitalisation in underground space. The event features research, industry expertise, and interpretations of emerging guidelines. This Site Visit and Short Course in Digital Engineering (DE) is designed to provide hands-on experience and expert insights into advanced digital technologies for tunnelling and underground construction.
This course is endorsed by the Australian Tunnelling Society (ATS) and Engineers Australia (EA) and delivered by a team of experienced facilitators from academia and industry.
Engineers Australia: 6.5 CPD hours

Victorian Tunnelling Centre (VTC) Visit
The Victorian Tunnelling Centre (VTC) trains and upskills local workers in underground construction and tunnelling at the Australian-first training facility. Training up to 5000 students annually, the centre ensures Victorians are leaders at tunnel boring machine operation, innovation and underground construction.
The VTC training facilities have been purpose-built and include:
- a replica mined road tunnel (3 lanes wide)
a replica tunnel boring machine tunnel
a 7.2m-tall tunnel boring machine cutterhead
2 multipurpose engineering workrooms
virtual reality training programs
tunnel shaft and concrete lining spray simulators
working refuge chamber.
