Monash launches Indigenous Alumni Network to strengthen community and connection

Monash University has announced the establishment of a new Indigenous Alumni Network, an Indigenous-led initiative designed to strengthen connections between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates and the University community.

Led by the William Cooper Institute, the network formalises Monash’s ongoing commitment to supporting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and alumni.

The new Indigenous Alumni Network creates a dedicated space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates to connect with one another, celebrate culture and shared experiences, and remain engaged with Monash beyond graduation. It also aims to foster mentoring relationships, support professional development, and inspire current and future Indigenous students.

Director of the William Cooper Institute Erin Pennett spoke to the significance of lifelong connections and growing a community that is stronger together.

“The establishment of our Indigenous Alumni Network, 'Djambana Ballert Gadhaba' - meaning the community is strong together - is a proud milestone for the William Cooper Institute, ensuring our grads always have a path back to their Monash family. By strengthening these lifelong connections, we’re creating a space where our alumni can continue to support one another and walk alongside the next generation of students. This network is all about celebrating the success of our alum and making sure their journey with us continues well after they've finished your studies.“

Graduates who join the network will have opportunities to participate in events, access lifelong learning initiatives, and contribute to a growing community that values Indigenous leadership and knowledges. The network also plays an important role in ensuring Monash’s alumni engagement is shaped by Indigenous voices and priorities.
