Realising the potential of Net Zero Precincts
Energy plays a fundamental role in ensuring people in precincts are comfortable, mobile, connected and thriving. As our cities grow, our energy future is also rapidly transforming.
Rising electricity costs and the falling price of renewable energy have seen over 2 million households install rooftop solar energy systems.
Up to 8400 jobs are to be created by 2030 for rooftop solar installations (Climate Council, 2016).
The electricity industry expects the cost of replacing and retiring old centrally-supplied infrastructure in Australia to be up to $27 billion (AEMO, 2018).
Precincts play a crucial role in enabling the transition to a low-carbon economy through deferred investments in centrally supplied infrastructure using smart technologies, local energy generation, storage, distribution and grid support capabilities.
Over $7.4 billion each year in savings is expected with the adoption of well established energy management policies, practices and technologies.
The above are expected to create at least 120,000 job-years for Australians (Energy Efficiency Council, 2019).
We are looking for academic, industry, government and community partners to collaborate and accelerate the Net Zero Precincts program.
