A guide to our Melbourne campuses: what parents should know
A guide to our Melbourne campuses: what parents should know
Our campuses | Clayton campus | Caulfield campus | Peninsula campus | Parkville campus | Which campus? | A connected community
If you’re exploring university options with your child, understanding where they’ll be studying can help you both picture what day-to-day life might look like.
Monash has four main campuses across Victoria – Clayton, Caulfield, Parkville and Peninsula – each with its own learning environment, community feel and areas of study. (We also have international campuses in Malaysia, China, Italy, Indonesia and India.)
While your child’s course will determine their primary campus, getting a sense of each location can help you support them in making an informed decision.
Clayton: a full campus experience with everything in one place
Located around 20 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, Clayton is Monash’s largest campus, with more than 45,000 students and the widest range of study areas.

For many families, Clayton offers a reassuring “all-in-one” environment with a true campus feel, with:
Many of our ten faculties and study areas are based here, including:
Despite its size, students often find their place through their classmates, by joining a student club, society, or peer mentoring program, or by attending one of the many events on campus. From live music and free food to day trips and social sport – each semester is jam-packed with opportunities for students to connect and settle in.
Caulfield: our creative, professional and connected hub
Caulfield campus is located just nine kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, with over 17,000 students.

With public transport directly at its doorstep, including Caulfield station directly opposite the campus, getting to and from campus is straightforward, which can be an important consideration for commuting students.
Caulfield has a more compact layout than Clayton, which many students find easy to navigate. Students might study at Caulfield if they’re interested in:
- Art, design and architecture
- Arts and media communication
- Business and economics
- Health sciences and public health
The campus has a professional and creative atmosphere, with dedicated studios, workshops, media labs, and collaborative learning spaces designed to reflect real-world environments.
Peninsula: a smaller, close-knit campus by the coast
Our Peninsula campus is located in Frankston, around 55 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, at the gateway to the picturesque Mornington Peninsula.

With approximately 4,000 students, it provides a smaller, more personalised study experience; something many parents and students value for the sense of community and belonging.
Courses at Peninsula focus on study areas in education, business and allied health. The campus has strong links with local communities and industry partners, particularly across healthcare, giving students access to practical, hands-on learning throughout their degree.
Students might study at Peninsula if they’re interested in:
Students have access to specialised teaching facilities – like simulation suites for nursing and paramedicine – as well as on-campus accommodation, sports facilities and green open spaces.
Parkville: specialised study in the heart of Melbourne’s health precinct
Parkville is our most specialised campus, located just minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, within the city’s major health and biomedical precinct.

Home to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Parkville offers a focused learning environment with around 2700 students. Students studying here benefit from close proximity to major hospitals, research institutes, and industry partners, creating valuable opportunities for real-world experience and professional connection.
Studying at Parkville means being immersed in a world-class research and healthcare environment. Students learn alongside experts, within close proximity to organisations shaping the future of medicine and science.
Where will your child study?
One of the most important things to understand is that students don’t typically “choose” a Monash campus in isolation. Instead, the course your child selects will determine where they study, as different disciplines are based at different campuses. Some students may also study across more than one campus during their degree, depending on their units.
One university, a connected community
While each campus offers a different experience, all of our students are part of one connected community. Regardless of where your child studies, they’ll have access to expert teaching staff and dedicated support services. They’ll have opportunities to build friendships, gain real-world experience, and develop skills that will enable them to lead and make a difference in a rapidly changing world. They’ll become adaptable, innovative and globally competent – ready to thrive in their chosen career.
