Starting university is a significant step in your education journey, both academically and personally. New people, new academic expectations, new independence. It’s pretty exciting, but it’s also completely normal to feel a little unsure about how you’ll manage the transition.

You’ll soon discover that at Monash, you won’t have to navigate this experience alone. From day one, you’ll have access to a network of support designed to help you feel confident, capable, and connected – academically, socially, and personally.

Support that meets you where you are

Studying at university can be a big transition, especially from high school, and we understand that everyone’s experience is different.

That’s why we offer a wide range of support services that you can access whenever you need them, whether you have a quick question or something more complex on your mind. Some of these key services include:

Looking after your health and wellbeing

Adjusting to new routines, workloads, expectations – and even living arrangements – can take time. That’s why we offer a range of health and wellbeing services to support you through the highs and lows.

It’s completely normal to have moments where things feel challenging. Reaching out for support is a strong and positive step. It’s something many students do during their time at uni – and you can arrive at Monash knowing you’re supported every step of the way.

Support for individual needs

If something is affecting your ability to study while you’re here, our services will work with you to understand your situation and put support in place that helps you bounce back and succeed in a way that’s tailored to you.

You can access personalised support if you:

  • live with a disability, medical or mental health condition, or are neurodivergent
  • have ongoing personal or family responsibilities
  • experience unexpected challenges during semester

Depending on your needs, this could include adjustments to assessments, extra time in exams, flexible study options, or access to assistive technology. We have the support in place to remove barriers, so you can focus on learning, growing, and achieving your potential.

Practical support for everyday life

Sometimes, challenges outside your studies can affect how you feel or perform. We offer practical support to help alleviate the pressure, so you can stay focused on what matters.

These services are here to support your overall uni experience, alongside your academic progress.

Finding your community

At Monash, we offer countless ways to connect. Whether it’s through clubs, societies, cultural groups, volunteering, one of our Flagship Rich Education Experience units, or from one of the many vibrant events on campus. There are so many amazing opportunities at your fingertips to get involved in our campus life and find your community.

Getting involved can help you to meet like-minded people with shared interests, build friendships and support networks, and make you feel more confident and settled in your new environment.

And you don’t have to be outgoing or have everything figured out. Even small steps like joining the peer mentoring program, a student club, or attending a campus event can make a huge difference in helping you feel at home.

Supporting you to grow in confidence

Wherever you’re starting from, we have the support, services and welcoming community to help you move forward.

You’ll be supported to grow in confidence, build independence and back yourself, alongside the people and services to help you every step of the way.

The important thing to remember is that studying at university isn’t just about getting a degree. It’s about becoming who you want to be, and having the support to get there.
