Impact

The Sleeping Sound Autism researchers have published three systematic reviews and over 10 empirical studies.

Between 2016 and 2019, we conducted a randomised controlled trial with 245 autistic children aged between 5 and 13 years and their parents. Families were randomly allocated to the intervention group or the control group.

Families in the intervention group participated in two 50-minute face-to-face sessions and a follow-up phone call with a paediatrician or psychologist. They received an individual assessment, psychoeducation on healthy sleep practices and a tailored sleep plan with personalised sleep strategies.

We are currently conducting an evaluation of the telehealth delivery of the Sleeping Sound Autism program with promising results.

So far we have reached >350 children and families in the RCT and Telehealth evaluation and expect to reach >50 children and families through the Monash Krongold Clinic every year from 2024. 20 developmental and educational psychology students will be trained on the delivery of the intervention alongside thousands of Australian General Practitioners and other health professionals who will access the Sleeping Sound Autism Professional Development Course for free from March 2024.
