MAGNET Project
Monash Autism & ADHD Genetics and Neurodevelopment (MAGNET) project
We want to better understand the complex symptoms of autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and why they overlap in some children. Working together we can better understand the strengths of children with autism and ADHD and the challenges they face. Our goal is to help improve early diagnosis and access to support.
The MAGNET Project is looking for 1000 families from across Victoria to take part.
What's involved?
We are inviting families who have a child aged 4-18 with autism and/or ADHD, as well as healthy, typically developing children. Children who are awaiting diagnosis must be actively under the care of a paediatrician to take part.
We are interested in why autism and ADHD can run in families; therefore siblings are welcome to take part. We can assess all children within the same visit.
Eligible families will complete some online questionnaires about their child, give a saliva sample for genetic analysis, and complete online questionnaires and 3 x 3-hour visits at the Turner Clinics, Notting Hill.
Children will complete some standardised assessments and some computer-based activities. For interested families, you may also be invited to take part in an MRI scan.
How can I take part?
For more information, you can read the explanatory statement and register your child to participate through this brief online questionnaire.
One of the team will then get in touch with you when we have availability.
