Phase 1:
You will be asked to assess each of the participating children in your classroom separately, using a brief questionnaire that queries the attention and concentration abilities of that child.
The questionnaire should take no longer than 5 minutes per child to complete.
We estimate that you will complete this questionnaire for approximately half of the children in your classroom. Filling in these questionnaires may take approximately one hour.
Phase 2:
A subset of children from the study (approximately 3 children from your classroom) will then be invited to take part in Phase 2 of the study. Not all of the children will be invited – we are seeking a range of children with varying levels of attention (very high to low) to take part in the second phase of the study.
Phase 2 involves a deeper assessment of the child’s attention control, their literacy and numeracy skills, and their general thinking skills. An eye-tracking device will be used to measure where they are looking as we assess their attention control.
Phase 2 is a longitudinal study, so we will reassess the subset of children once a year for the next two years.
We will ask for your help in facilitating our access to the children taking part in the deeper assessments over the course of the study. This may include passing out information about the study, collecting forms back from parents/caregivers, and allowing children to be escorted from the classroom as they participate.
You will also be asked to fill in some questionnaires about the subset of children in the class who are participating in Phase 2 of the study. These questionnaires will assess the participating children’s levels of symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and anxiety. These questionnaires should take no longer than 10 minutes per child to complete. Filling in these questionnaires may take approximately half an hour.
