Hazelwood 10th Anniversary activities
The Hazelwood Health Study team were very pleased to be invited to participate in the activities commemorating the 10th anniversary of the mine fire. This included team members presenting as part of the Innovation Breakfast Series, and participating in the Community Day at Kernot Hall in Morwell. Details of both events provided below:

Hosted by Federation University, the Latrobe Valley Authority and Regional Development Victoria.
Hazelwood Co-Principal Investigator Matthew Carroll was joined by study researchers Susan Yell and Lieke Scheepers to provide an overview of the findings to date with regards to the impacts on mental health, community wellbeing and child development. This was followed by a panel discussion involving the Latrobe Health Advocate Jane Anderson who talked about the implications for the community.

10th Anniversary Community Day

The event featured a number of displays from key community groups and stakeholders, including a Hazelwood Health Study information booth providing information about the study streams and key findings. Study team members were present across the day to talk to community members regarding the findings, the future directions of the study, and any ongoing concerns that residents may have.

A highlight of the information booth was the digital presentation of images from the Community Wellbeing stream’s photographic exhibition ‘Our hopes for the future of Morwell’.
The community event featured panel discussions across the day and the study was pleased to host a discussion on the health impacts of the mine fire which was chaired by Matthew Carroll (Co-Principal Investigator) and featured updates on the impacts on mental health (Tim Campbell), community wellbeing (Susan Yell), and child development (Lieke Scheepers), followed by a lively discussion and Q+A featuring Jane Anderson (Latrobe Health Advocate) and Ellen-Jane Browne (Latrobe Health Assembly).
