Crack down on contract cheating services!

The Government has passed legislation that makes it an offence to provide or advertise academic cheating services in higher education (often referred to in higher education circles as ‘contract cheating’).

The legislation became operative on 4 September 2020. The formal title is the 'Tertiary Education Quality and Education Standards (Academic Cheating Services) Act 2020' and as evident in the name, it amends the TEQSA Act 2011.

The new law is aimed at those who provide and advertise cheating services. It is not aimed at students.

Students who use the cheating services will continue to be subject to the academic integrity policies, processes and discipline regulations of Monash University.

Monash has a central, internal register for staff to report information about contract cheating services. No action is being taken at this time; however, the services reported here may be forwarded to authorities in the future, pending advice from TEQSA.
