Monash has introduced a new suite of institutionally supported AI tools and resources for staff and students. The AI at Monash website brings together guidance on responsible use, links to available tools, training opportunities, and University policies and governance information. Google Gemini is an AI tool that can help with drafting, summarising, planning, and generating ideas. You may find it useful for creating first-pass materials, refining explanations, or exploring alternative approaches, before applying disciplinary expertise and judgement. The new SETU empowers educators with more reliable and accurate insights into students' learning experiences. The new SETU instrument scales were co-designed with Associate Deans/Deputy Deans of Education (A/DDEs) across all Monash faculties and validated by 20k students. Students will experience the same familiar survey process, but with new core unit questions. New core scales will be released for all units evaluated on/after 13th October 2025.

Assessment tab enhancement

In January 2025, the Assessment tab of the Monash Standard Unit and Project templates will be getting a refresh. Based on student and staff feedback, this new design will deliver key requested features. These new features will enable you to structure your assessments in new ways that reflect your teaching approach and processes. It will also provide our students with clearer expectations of their learning outcomes.

Building pedagogical content knowledge

PCK embodies the integration of content and pedagogy into a comprehensive understanding of how specific content is structured, communicated, and adapted to cater to diverse learners’ interests and capabilities (Shulman, 1987). PCK encompasses two fundamental elements: knowledge of representations of subject matter and knowledge of specific student conceptions and learning challenges.

Short Extensions and Special Consideration procedures and processes utilise an integrated system of Moodle, Service Console Lite (the same system used to manage Academic Integrity breaches) and the Special consideration dashboard to:

  • streamline academic staff involvement in the process, facilitate their oversight of student applications and lessen disruptions to the marking process.
  • provide students with a consistent application process that is fair and fast.
