Extensions and Special Consideration
Challenges and interruptions to study can occur for many reasons, and every student who is experiencing exceptional circumstances should be supported to succeed. Students can apply for additional time to complete a graded assessment task in the event of immediate and exceptional circumstances beyond their control. Special Consideration is the process of providing an extension or alternative outcome (e.g. an exemption or alternative assessment) for students who apply and meet the criteria.
An integrated system of Moodle, Service Console Lite (the same system used to manage Academic Integrity breaches) and the Special Consideration Dashboard:
- streamlines academic staff involvement in the process, facilitates their oversight of student applications and lessens disruptions to the marking process.
- provides students with a consistent application process that is fair and fast.
This resource provides guidance on the process and supporting tools used by staff members to ensure a consistent application of the Special Consideration Procedure.
