Citing and referencing

This Bento Box aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge on the what, where, why, and when of manual citation and referencing. It provides guidance on creating references for diverse resources such as books, journal articles, websites, and social media.

Note

The learning sequence serves to establish a foundation for students, addressing potential questions and errors early in their course. Emphasis is placed on understanding the purpose and timing of citations, aligning with assessed criteria. Students are guided through recognising resource types (e.g., books, journal articles, websites, social media, generative artificial intelligence, and/or Indigenous Knowledges) and how to cite and reference in your unit style. Additionally, the sequence covers methods for checking auto-generated citations and offers further resources for referencing assistance.

This bento is best suited to students preparing for their first written assessment in a unit. This would also support graduate students – particularly those new to Australia or returning to study –  to refresh their knowledge and understand Monash standards.
