Teaching at Monash
Overview
This module is designed for anyone teaching at Monash, whether you are new to the University, new to higher education, or experienced and looking to refresh and extend your practice. It helps you to identify the elements that shape teaching at Monash: the University’s values, educational priorities, and strategic direction, as well as the broader higher education landscape and contemporary issues such as the responsible use of AI.
You’ll also build a clear working knowledge of education roles, technologies, policies, and support networks that underpin teaching at Monash. Through guided exploration of key procedures and real teaching scenarios, you’ll learn how to locate information on, and apply, the right guidance for assessment, feedback, and student support. Along the way, you’ll discover pathways for professional development, connection, and recognition – helping you feel part of a community of educators committed to high-quality, student-centred teaching at Monash.
The module is available as an ongoing resource hub, allowing educators to return at any time to access materials, use the index, and ask questions.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Recognise how Monash’s educational priorities, values, and strategic objectives shape teaching practices across the University.
- Locate, interpret, and apply key policies, procedures, and resources related to teaching, learning, assessment, and educational technologies at Monash.
- Build connections between your current teaching approach and Monash's institutional expectations.
- Identify key teaching roles and systems at Monash, and know where to access guidance and support when needed.
- Recognise the pathways for professional learning, support, and recognition to support your ongoing development.
Assessment
- Post a written reflection on what the Teaching at Monash module brings together and what it means for your own practice in the Professional Learning Hub, where you will also be able to read and engage with colleagues’ reflections.
