Sleep and Circadian Rhythms
Program Lead Dr Bradley Edwards T: +61 3 9905 0187 | Sleep is increasingly recognised as the third pillar of good health, alongside diet and exercise. Our Sleep Program investigates the role of the internal biological clock in sleep, sleep disorders (like insomnia and obstructive sleep apnoea), and a person's ability to adapt to unusual sleep patterns, such as shift work. We are also investigating how sleep, body-clock disturbances and fatigue contribute to impairments in mood, memory and cognition, and disorders such as depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury. Through our clinics we provide advanced treatments for sleep disorders. We are also continuously developing and testing new interventions ensuring that our findings are rapidly translated into improved sleep health. We work in collaboration with industry to develop technologies to monitor alertness and body clock function in the work and clinical setting. |

Sleep and circadian neuroscience
Through our lab-based studies, we drill down to the fundamental mechanisms that control sleep and alertness, and their interactions with mood, cognition, and mental and physical health.

Sleep health
We’re striving to find evidence-based treatments and approaches to sleep and circadian deficiencies and disorders, so that people may lead safer, more comfortable lives.

Sleep performance and safety
We’re establishing ways to accurately measure, monitor and manage alertness levels, for enhanced performance and safety.

Our people - Sleep
Meet our team of world-class researchers who are committed to leading the way in cognitive and clinical neurosciences.
Industry and clinical practice partners
Our research program is delivered in collaboration with industry and clinical partners to advance new ideas, exciting technologies and discoveries.
