About us

Monash Histology was founded in 1962 in response to increased University demand for on-site Histology Services. In 2012 the Laboratory underwent a complete re-incarnation and now stands as a world-class, modern Histology facility, committed to excellence, quality, consultation and collaboration.

The Histology Platform is located within the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology and provides services for Monash University academic staff and students as well as external Universities, Hospitals and companies. We provide expert service, advice and training for all histological studies involving tissues embedded in paraffin and glycolmethacrylate. Our AMREP node was opened in 2014, extending our access while providing basic on-site services and delivery to researchers working at AMREP. The MHTP node is located within the Monash Health Research Precinct. This node offers a combination of Professional Services and DIY within the same convenient location.

The Histology Platform operates on a fee for service basis for all laboratory services and access, as well as providing assistance in Collaborative Research and consultation. All personnel utilizing Monash Histology Platform services are required to pre-register as Approved Users according to OH&S regulations. Those  wishing to access Histology equipment are required to urdergo a brief induction, training and/or assessment session prior to using the equipment for the first time.

The core business of Monash Histology Platform is the production, or education and training for the  production, of high quality microscopic sections from a wide variety of samples onto slides. The service catalogue of the Histology Platform has significantly expanded over the past few years and now offers a full range of Histology services which are not limited to slide production, refer to our services.

The Histology team is renowned for their vast wealth of experience in routine and specialized histological techniques. We have experts in several fields including immunostaining, resin section production, cryotomy and imaging and are happy to provide advice on project planning and development, training, or troubleshooting.
