The scholarship
The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship gives passionate and curious students an opportunity to expand their worldview, embrace new perspectives and help build stronger ties between Australia and Asia.
With this scholarship you'll get financial support to study in Asia for up to two semesters. This means you can immerse yourself in the cultural, social and political experiences the region has to offer, without worrying about travel, study or living expenses.
You can choose to study at any university in mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea or Taiwan, as long as Monash University has an exchange agreement with the host institution.
Benefits
Up to 36 Asian Exchange Scholarships are awarded each year to students at Australian universities. If you're selected, you'll receive AUD$12,700 to support your exchange in Asia, covering travel, living and study expenses.
You’ll also get to attend the weeklong Future Leaders Scholars Leadership Development Program in Singapore, giving you (and other scholars from Australia) the chance to learn more about Asia and build your leadership skills.
In addition to funding and leadership development, you’ll become part of the W100 Scholars Network, which allows like-minded achievers to attend exclusive events and receive mentoring.

The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship is created and funded by the Westpac Scholars Trust, which was set up in 2017 by Westpac bank to support a new generation of leaders who are eager to create a better future for all Australians. The Trust focuses on empowering scholars to set new standards in the areas of innovation and technology, sustainability, strengthening ties with Asia, and social change.
Each year, they offer 100 scholarships (worth over AUD$4,000,000) to university students, researchers, and social entrepreneurs who are eager to reach their full potential and create a more sustainable, innovative, inclusive, and globally connected Australia.
Westpac’s programs are designed to empower you to invest your time and energy into what matters most – your studies, research and leadership development.
Beyond funding, the programs also offer unique leadership development opportunities, global experiences, networking and mentoring – all of which are vital in preparing scholars to lead successful and meaningful careers, and step up to lead Australia into a better future.
