The scholarships

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded, full-time graduate award program which enables talented young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.

Rhodes scholars come to the UK for two or more years, and can apply to study most full-time graduate courses offered by Oxford University.

The Scholarship is merit-based and aims to develop public-spirited leaders and promote international understanding and peace through an international community of scholars. It was established to identify young leaders worldwide, and through their shared educational experiences at Oxford, help them forge bonds of mutual understanding and fellowship for the betterment of humanity.

Benefits

A Rhodes Scholarship is valued at between AUD$75,000 and AUD$125,000 (depending on course duration) and includes:

  • all Oxford University and college fees (including visa costs)
  • a personal stipend (e.g. for the 2023/24 academic year, the stipend was approximately AUD$3,100 per month)
  • private health insurance for the UK’s National Health Service
  • one economy-class return airfare.

Unlike other Oxford University students, you'll have access to Rhodes House, a beautiful building at the heart of the city with study spaces and libraries (it’s also where the Registrar, the Director of Programming and the Warden are based).

Hosted at Rhodes House, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend talks, seminars and forums with world-leading experts and guests, and social events like the Coming Up Dinner and the Rhodes Ball.

Applications

How to apply

To apply for the Rhodes Scholarship, you need to submit your application online before the deadline, and before you apply for your chosen course at the University of Oxford. There's no fee to apply.

If you're selected for the scholarship, you'll then apply for your course through the University of Oxford’s graduate application form, with help from the Rhodes House team.

When you fill out the Rhodes application form, you'll need to provide:

  • proof that you meet the eligibility criteria
  • your education history, including university transcripts
  • the course(s) you want to study at the University of Oxford
  • a CV
  • an academic statement
  • a personal statement
  • five referees in total.
