Lombok Fieldwork Progress - September 2024

The Lombok stream report on two main activities - the visit a large delegation to showcase the unique approaches of the project, and a stakeholder workshop.
KONEKSI Visit, Bappeda of East Lombok Regency

Dr. Miya Irawati and Associate Professor Ika Idris welcomed a KONEKSI led delegation to the Lombok research site to showcase the research approaches, and the genuine partnerships with local community that the researchers have established.
The delegation included:

East Lombok Regency: Bappeda, Working group of Climate Adaptation, Agency of Environment, Agency of Fishery and Marine, and Agency of Women Empowerment and Child Protection. - Members of the local community included the Secretary of Pringgabaya sub-district and the Secretary of Pringgabaya village.
- Joining via Zoom was Associate Professor Sharyn Davies, and Associate Professor Becky Bagaol - Monash University, Australia, Associate Professor Eka Permanasari and Dr Yulisna Mutia Sari - Monash University Indonesia and Rafika Ramli - Universitas Hasanuddin.
Following the event's proceedings, the attendees visited the village of Ketapang to participate in dialogues with the local fishermen's association and the community surveillance team responsible for safeguarding the coastal and marine areas within the village.
Stakeholder Workshop in East Lombok Regency

This stakeholder workshop is a part of a series of activities within the Participatory Action research The workshop was attended by the local governments at West Tenggara Province, East Lombok Regency, sub-district and village levels, and Civil Society Organisations.
The objectives of this stakeholder workshop were to:
- Gather feedback on the research findings and to refine recommendations for a policy brief from the stakeholders' perspective as part of the efforts towards enhancing climate resilience at the level of East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, and Indonesia, and
- Develop action plans from the existing programs of stakeholders to respond the climate resilience in Lombok Timur Regency which will be for the draft of action plan of Working Group of Climate Adaptation in Lombok Timur Regency.
The program was opened by the Bappeda of East Lombok Regency, and included a Screening of a documentary film on Climate change impact and resilience in Lombok, presentation of findings and recommendations by Dr Miya Irawati followed by a Q&A session. Group discussions covered the mapping of existing climate adaptation programs carried out by stakeholders, and stitching together these programs to form an integrated program with a 3-5 year timeline as the draft of the action plan of Working Group of Climate Adaptation in Lombok Timur Regency.

Stakeholder Workshop - Kupang

As part of Participatory Action Research methods aimed to disseminate research findings and conduct public consultation, marking the end of data collection in Kupang. Thirty eight stakeholders attended the event from government, local CSO and representatives of vulnerable groups from villages.
The workshop was officially opened by Mr Juhardi D Selan, Head of Regional Development Planning, Research and Budgeting/BP4D of Kupang Regency and Mr Yafas Lay, Director of GARAMIN. This workshop provides the opportunity for Government to liaise directly with local people, with a focus on women, people with disabilities, and the elderly. Sign Language Interpreters ensured accessibility of information for hearing impaired participants who were able to provide feedback on the current research findings.

Documentary Film
Our research was chosen by KONEKSI among 38 projects to showcase successful collaboration in research and partnership between Australia and Indonesia organisations through a documentary film produced by Koneksi. Dr Welmince and GARAMIN participated in two days shooting for KONEKSI Documentary on partnership between Australian and Indonesian researchers, and organisations in Kupang which was taken by POTRAY over 19 & 20 September 2024.

Makassar Fieldwork Progress - July 2024

On 11th of May 2024, our research partners in Makassar, Associate Professor Sudirman Nasir from Universitas Hasanuddin and Nur Syarif Ramadhan from Perdik (Pergerakan Difabel Indonesia untuk Kesetaraan) were invited to present our project in an Alumni Networking Event in South Sulawesi hosted by Todd Dias, the Australian Consul – General in Makassar. Beside the presentations from three Alumni on their KONEKSI-funded research project, this event also brought together Indonesians who studied in Australia to reconnect, network and entrepreneurial ventures. The fieldwork in Makassar is nearly completed. Five FGDs (i) people with disability, (ii) Government Stakeholders (regional agency), (iii) Non-government stakeholders, local champion and head of village stakeholder, (iv) Women and (v) Older People, 34 participant interviews (women, older people, people with disability, and stakeholders) and observing 4 areas in Makassar (Lantebung area, Patingalloang, Cembaya and Tallo sub-district) have been conducted.
The data analysis is currently underway and is being considered separately for the three streams (Older people, People with Disabilities and Gender). Analysing specifically for the local context for Makassar, Lombok and Kupang also will be undertaken. A stakeholder workshop in Makassar is planning to be held at the end of August to share our findings to the Government and Non-Government stakeholders in Makassar and seeking their input during the workshop for final analysis and the policy brief – as part of our Participatory Action Research approach.
Pada tanggal 11 Mei 2024, mitra peneliti kami di Makassar, Associate Professor Sudirman Nasir dari Universitas Hasanuddin dan Nur Syarif Ramadhan dari Perdik (Pergerakan Difabel Indonesia untuk Kesetaraan) diundang untuk mempresentasikan proyek kami di Acara Jaringan Alumni di Sulawesi Selatan yang diselenggarakan oleh Todd Dias, Konsul Jenderal Australia di Makassar. Selain presentasi dari tiga Alumnus mengenai proyek penelitian yang didanai oleh KONEKSI, acara ini juga mempertemukan orang-orang Indonesia yang pernah belajar di Australia untuk saling berkoneksi, berjaringan, dan berbagi pengalaman kewirausahaan.

Pengambilan data di Makassar sudah hampir selesai. Lima Diskusi Kelompok Terfokus (FGD) telah dilakukan, yaitu (i) penyandang disabilitas, (ii) Pemangku Kepentingan Pemerintah (instansi regional), (iii) Pemangku Kepentingan non-pemerintah, tokoh masyarakat, dan kepala desa, (iv) Perempuan, dan (v) Lansia, serta 34 wawancara partisipan (perempuan, lansia, penyandang disabilitas, dan pemangku kepentingan) dan pengamatan di 4 area di Makassar (area Lantebung, Patingalloang, Cembaya, dan Kecamatan Tallo).
Saat ini, analisis data sedang dilakukan secara terpisah untuk tiga kelompok (Lansia, Penyandang Disabilitas, dan Gender). Analisis khusus untuk konteks lokal Makassar, Lombok, dan Kupang juga akan dilakukan. Lokakarya pemangku kepentingan di Makassar direncanakan akan diadakan pada akhir Agustus 2024 untuk membagikan temuan kami kepada para pemangku kepentingan di Makassar (Pemerintah dan Non-Pemerintah) dan meminta masukan mereka selama lokakarya untuk analisis akhir dan pembuatan kebijakan - sebagai bagian dari pendekatan Penelitian Aksi Partisipatif (PAR) kami.
