About

The Emerging Technologies Research Lab, or ETLab, is an interdisciplinary and international research, knowledge and impact community. We investigate social, experiential and political futures, pasts and present temporalities. Our world-class academic and engaged scholarship innovates and delivers new techniques and knowledge carefully designed to deliver new, inclusive and effective understandings and impact in response to the urgent need to better plan for futures with and for people and other species, emerging technologies and climate.

ETLab, founded in 2018 by design and futures anthropologist, Professor Sarah Pink, is an initiative across the Faculties of Art, Design & Architecture (MADA) and Information Technology (FIT) at Monash University.

Our 2024 research programmes foreground energy and netzero futures, futures of work, skills and learning, and FIRE (Finance, Insurance and Real Estate) tech. We continue our innovation themes in documentary filmmaking, methods and our international visitors' programme.

In 2024 we launch our new FUTURES Hub!; a communication, meeting and dissemination point for Futures research and activity in Sarah Pink's ARC Laureate Fellowship 'The Impact of Future Human Values and Practices on Australia's Digital and Net Zero Transitions', futures focused work in ETLab, and our FUTURES community of engaged scholars and partners from industry, government, not-for-profit and other sectors.
