Research programmes
FUTURES Hub
FUTURES Hub is a world-class research, communication, meeting and dissemination nexus for Futures research and activity. It is our response to this moment where we live with elevated future uncertainties in a changing climate, in our applications of emerging technologies, and for our communities and everyday life. At the moment there is simply insufficient knowledge about our possible futures, and a need for new qualitative techniques for investigating, understanding, communications and action in relation to possible futures.
Quantum Futures Collaboration
The Monash Quantum Futures Collaboration engages citizens, industry, academia, and government to support Australia’s quantum readiness. It explores how life, work, and institutions may evolve as quantum innovations emerge, and involves Australians in shaping the nation’s quantum future.
Energy futures
The Energy Futures research program speculates on how people will generate, store, access, share and embed energy within their future everyday lives, to help shape energy policy and planning for Australia and beyond.
Futures of F.I.R.E Industries
This research program conducts in-depth, critical analyses of the FIRE sector—finance, insurance, and real estate—and its technological futures.
Work, Skills and Learning Futures
This research programme investigates Work, Skills and Learning Futures and embraces the transformation of work. We develop methodological and analytical thinking grounded in Design Anthropology, Design Research and Science and Technology Studies (STS) to understand the present and the possible futures of work, skills and learning. We seek to envision and advocate for pathways towards a more equitable, just, and sustainable societal future.
Health Futures
The Health Futures research stream focuses on designing, developing and activating health futures that are safe, equitable, integrated, sustainable and attuned to diverse needs. Our research leverages expertise in the co-design of health systems, services and technologies to generate new insights, possibilities and solutions for complex health systems, services and technologies. We operate on principles of interdisciplinarity and partnership, working with industry, multilaterals, governments, health care providers and lived experience consumers to envisage and build optimal health futures for our communities, both local and global.
