Home helper robots

About

Home Helper Robots: Understanding Our Future Lives with Human-like AI is a first-of-its kind multi-year research project (2025-2029) exploring how cute, social robots may become part of everyday life in Australian homes.

A new generation of home robots are entering the global market. Some can help with household tasks, others provide security monitoring or companionship. Across these different applications, cuteness is emerging as a defining feature of many home robots, shaping how they are imagined, marketed and experienced.

Home Helper Robots: Understanding Our Future Lives with Human-like AI

A multi-year research project (2025-2029) funded by the Australian Research Council (FT230100021).

The project will help Australians better understand the opportunities and risks associated with increasingly social home robots, including their potential roles as helpers, carers and companions, and what it means to live with and form relationships with increasingly social robots.
