Research informs storage integration in the NEM
Prof Guillaume Roger presented findings from a multi-year research collaboration with PSC on electricity storage and its implications for market design in the National Electricity Market.
The Monash Energy Institute's Grid Innovation Hub and PSC Consulting were delighted to convene industry leaders to discuss a new research report on storage integration in the NEM. We had attendees across the report launch events in Sydney, Christchurch, Auckland, and Melbourne, and thanks to panel members in Melbourne: Kerry Galloway, Andrew Ely, Guillaume Roger, Alex Boyd and Matthew Robinson.
Large‑scale electricity storage is reshaping how renewables are integrated into the grid, creating new opportunities and challenges for market design, competition and system reliability - this requires industry collaboration to find solutions for us all.
Key insights from Prof Guillaume Roger included:
- Buying behavior and uncertainty remain key constraints on fully utilizing storage
- Clear implications for future market design and competition policy
- New perspectives on reliability in a renewables‑and‑storage future
