Australian Energy Market Operator
The global economy is undergoing an unprecedented transition towards decarbonisation and the energy sector is the most fundamental enabler of this future. Monash University and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) are collaborating to identify and solve some of the critical technical challenges in achieving energy systems that can operate at up to 100% instantaneous renewable generation on the path to 100% renewable energy, and supporting a vital energy sector scholarship to help develop the industry’s leaders of tomorrow.
Projects include areas of energy demand forecasting, smart visualisation of energy networks, and power systems. AEMO has partnered with Monash University to deliver the prestigious Zema Energy Studies PhD Scholarship Program.
CSIRO
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency, collaborates with the Monash Grid Innovation Hub on transformative energy initiatives. These include GPST - Advanced inverter applications (and requirements) for current-limited grid-forming inverters – Stage 3 , the Electric Power Innovation for a Carbon-Free Society (EPICS) Global Center, and the International Clean Innovation Researcher Networks. Together, we drive innovation to advance renewable energy integration and build a sustainable energy future.
AEMC
Monash University and the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) are collaborating on a ground-breaking research project funded by a $495,000 grant from ARENA. Conducted by Monash's Grid Innovation Hub, the study aims to explore alternative market designs that support the integration of energy storage, a crucial element for expanding Variable Renewable Energy (VRE). This partnership seeks to identify changes to market structures that encourage storage investment, aligning with Australia's net zero emissions target by 2050. With contributions from Monash researchers, AEMO, and PSC, the project is poised to inform future energy market frameworks essential for a low-carbon transition.
C4NET
As a founding partner of the Centre for New Energy Technologies (C4NET), Monash University is collaborating with Victorian universities and industry to accelerate the deployment of new energy systems and improved data access and usage.
Energy Consumers Australia
Monash University has collaborated with industry partners Ausgrid, AusNet Services and Energy Consumers Australia to embark on a three year, $2.3 million research project, to better understand how emerging technologies will impact our future energy needs. The Digital Energy Futures project, which is funded through the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Projects scheme, aims to further our knowledge around how energy consumers’ lifestyles and energy demand will change in the future.
