Trans and Gender Diverse Applicants

Monash University recognises and values the diversity of its community, including transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people. We recognise that a person’s gender identity may shift or evolve over their lifespan and we support and welcome staff and students affirming their gender identity as part of a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace and learning environment.

Monash also recognises that trans and gender diverse applicants face barriers in recruitment that can be challenging to overcome without organisational support. We have implemented strategies and actions to foster inclusion in the recruitment process in a variety of ways, including the following:

Education

  • All staff have access to LGBTIQA+ Ally Training, Transgender Awareness Training, and Pronoun Pro, which are widely promoted to staff
  • Recruitment and hiring managers have access to LGBTIQA+ training specific to the hiring process

Systems

  • Our recruitment portal does not require applicants to provide information on their gender
  • We provide options for selecting diverse pronouns in our systems, including the recruitment portal

Diversity

  • Monash actively expects diversity on decision making panels, which is part of ensuring our processes are free from the effects of unconscious bias
  • Hiring managers are equipped with the information to support diverse populations through the recruitment process
