Projects
Projects
Our projects are guided by a simple, but focused strategy: demystify climate change by presenting localised climate information to as many people as possible, as often as possible. Their impact-focus ensures they are grounded in practical application, remaining focused on assisting Australians to better understand climate change, how it is going to impact them, and what solutions are available.
Attention on Climate
One of MCCCRH's communication strategies is always go to where attention already is, which requires extensive research into the 'attention economy' of national media ecosystems, as well as the relevance of messages.

Climate Communicators
The MCCCRH's flagship program, Climate Communicators, produces simple, long-term climate graphics for Australian weather presenters.

Changing Climates
In partnership with NewsCorp Australia, we deliver localised climate graphics and climate journalism to local publications across Australia.

Climate Classrooms
In partnership with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, Climate Classrooms provides free, easily accessible lesson plans on climate science.

Climatepulse
In partnership with Weatherzone, Climatepulse develops and delivers accessible climate explainer videos for broadcast on Weatherzone's app, website and socials.

Climate Reporting in Australia
Through extensive coding of over 10,000 newspaper articles covering extreme weather events and Australian climate policy, we present the trends, frames and treatment of climate change in Australian newspapers.

Climate Change Poetry
Speaking to different audiences requires a range of texts and with this project we explore the power of poetry to communicate climate change in Australia.

Sonifying Climate Change in Australia
Can sound help us better understand climate change? Working in collaboration with Penn State University, our sonification project plots data from extreme weather events such as cyclones, and turns it into unique soundtracks, effectively allowing us to hear these events in an entirely new way.

Thinking Climate: Perceptions of Climate Change in Australia
In collaboration with Australian & international partners, this project will conduct ‘audience segmentation studies’ to understand the different ways Australians perceive climate change.

Cli-Fi: Climate Fiction & Climate Change
Climate fictions are an important way of communicating climate science to non-specialist audiences and are currently being explored within the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics.

Climate Genie
Climate Genie is a web extension that offers an automated fact-check of online climate change misinformation. This project is currently in the development stage.

Climate Notes
Climate Notes is a multimedia installation and performance project by Anna McMichael (violin) and Louise Devenish (percussion). It builds on the Is This How You Feel project, a collection of handwritten letters from 50 leading international climate scientists created in 2014 and 2020.

The 4D Project
The 4D Project is a holistic, interdisciplinary strategy in response to climate solutions misinformation. The Project is in response to climate misinformation, organised around four themes: Detect, Deconstruct, Debunk, and Deploy
Climate change solutions – student videos
Video Lab students in Monash’s Bachelor of Media Communications were tasked with creating a short video that investigates a climate change solution. Each video’s purpose is to increase audiences' understanding of the many solutions to climate change.
