Weather presenters

The Hub’s weather presenters program delivers free, accessible, data-driven climate reporting materials to weather presenters across five of Australia’s major television networks: Sky News, the ABC, Network Ten, Seven Network and 9 News.

Our bespoke, localised graphics and science explainers reach around one million Australians every month, fostering awareness of the impacts of global climate change on local communities.

Since 2018, this project has amassed 56.5 million views, with around 11 million views and 1300 broadcasts in the past 12 months. The program empowers weather presenters to deliver the latest climate data to the public in an accessible manner, aiming to build climate literacy so communities can make informed decisions.

Evaluation surveys have shown that exposure to our content was associated with 10-12% greater climate literacy and 7-9% higher adoption of climate-friendly behaviours.

Avoiding advocacy and letting the facts speak for themselves

By detailing city-level climate trends in a simple format, the program is building an understanding of the local implications of a global phenomenon. And with television remaining the single largest source of news and weather for Australians, we reach hundreds of thousands of people with each broadcast.

“My greatest compliment is that the graphics that you guys send me through are really good, fantastic. They match our news team – the colours and everything, which is important.”

“It’s nice to have a streamlined package, [...] I’ll read through it, I know where this data is from, I know how to incorporate it into our news bulletins.”
