Please take the time to read the full risk assessment. It details the activities that can be carried out and how to manage the risk associated with them. An overview of each risk assessment is below.

For activities outside of standard working hours (8am-6pm) please read the after hours risk assessment in addition to this one.

If you are performing any activities outside of those described in the risk assessment, you will need to complete your own risk assessment to cover these additional activities. We can help you through this process, please contact the PAC resources team for assistance: arts-pac-resources-team-l@monash.edu.

If you are unsure of an activity do not do it! Please ask a staff member or member of the Technical team for assistance and guidance.

General notes

  • Seek assistance if you don't feel safe or comfortable using or moving instruments or equipment
  • Take note of the location of emergency exits, first aid kits and other safety equipment
  • Keep doorways, emergency exits  and walkways clear of instruments, chairs, bags, equipment or other objects

Only move or use pianos, back line, percussion instruments, tables, chairs, scenery, flats and/or other equipment if you:

  • Have received appropriate training
  • Are wearing closed footwear
  • Have read, understood and agree to comply with relevant SWI's
  • Have checked all electrical equipment for a current test tag before use
  • Apply brakes (if applicable) to prevent unintended movement of equipment while in use
  • Do not stack chairs more than 4 high
  • Use an appropriate trolley (chair trolley or flatbed trolley)
  • Return equipment to its storage location after use

If you need to run cables (for instruments, microphones, amplifiers, laptops etc):

  • Choose safe cable paths that avoid crossing pathways and emergency exits
  • Use cable guards and/or gaffer to secure cables where possible
  • Use appropriate undamaged cables
  • Check all electrical cables for a current test tag before use

For all activities in the PAC building:

  • Take appropriate breaks in rehearsals and practice (at least 15 minutes in every 2 hours)
  • Set up orchestral chairs so that you are comfortable and are playing in an ergonomic position
  • Ensure you are warmed up appropriately before beginning any rehearsal or performance activity
  • Be aware of the condition of flooring, walls and equipment while moving and using it to prevent damage
