Project description

The NIDR Community of Practice brings people together to share research, practice and policy updates, and to identify research questions and priorities.

It is a network of like-minded Indigenous and non-Indigenous advocates for Indigenous leadership in emergency management and disaster resilience.

Meeting online every quarter and in person once a year, theGroup photo of Community of Practice first meeting goal of the NIDR Community of Practice is to influence systems change and advance Indigenous leadership within emergency management and disaster resilience sectors. This includes identifying and discussing Indigenous disaster resilience priorities, and sharing resources, key learnings and opportunities.

The NIDR Community of Practice also helps to create mutually beneficial collaborations between the disaster and emergency management sectors and Indigenous experts, creating opportunities for connecting, learning and doing more when it comes to elevating Indigenous voices within disaster resilience. This includes shifting the social and political perspectives of the sector towards strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches and celebrations of Indigenous excellence.
