FEBRUARY 2026
A message from Monash MBA (Digital) Director Jonathan Matheny, and MBA Alumni Committee Co-chair Deborah Daly.

As we step into 2026, there is a genuine sense of energy across our MBA alumni network. A new year always brings fresh perspectives, and this year we begin with both continuity and change that will serve our community well.
We are pleased to welcome our new Co-chair, Jonathan Matheny Monash MBA (Digital) Director, working alongside our continuing Co-chair, Deborah Daly, a proud Monash MBA alumna. Together, we lead an energised MBA Alumni Committee, made up of 50% returning members who carry forward their experience and insight, and 50% new volunteers who bring their enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the 2026 program. We extend our sincere thanks to every committee member for generously giving their time and talent to strengthen this community.
We concluded 2025 with our well-attended November event and resoundingly, there was positive feedback about celebration of connections, shared learning, and pride in our MBA program. This is the momentum we carry into the year ahead. Our three pillars remain central to everything we do: encouraging lifelong learning, fostering pride in our MBA program, and creating meaningful opportunities to connect.
The 2026 MBA Alumni Program includes a similar mix of events to years past. In May, we will host our flagship MBA Lifelong Learning Day, bringing alumni together for a day of engagement, insight, and inspiration. Throughout the year, we will also come together for a series of MBA Connectors, networking events designed to inform and mobilise our MBA alumni community. In 2026 we’ll continue to offer our three-part online Thought Leadership Series, providing opportunities for alumni across Australia and internationally to join the conversation. These interactive sessions offer exclusive opportunities to deepen your knowledge on contemporary issues, share perspectives, and stay connected regardless of location.
New for 2026, all MBA Alumni are now invited to participate in the Career Advancement Program (CAP). The CAP provides practical, hands-on professional development workshops that help you develop your career and align it to your unique direction and purpose.
As always, we will continue to shine a light on member achievements, celebrating the remarkable ways our people make a difference across Australia and beyond. You’ll want to read our story about Melanie Barclay’s volunteer work to restore beaches to their natural pristine condition, working alongside Indigenous rangers to remove ghost nets in Cape Arnhem. Then perhaps you’ll want to share a comment about your own interest areas on the Monash MBA LinkedIn page.
2026 holds exciting opportunities to learn, to connect, and to contribute. We look forward to sharing more details of the year’s events with you soon and to welcoming you, whether in person or online, throughout the year.
Thank you for being part of this vibrant and engaged community. Here’s to a year of fresh energy, continued connection, and purposeful leadership into 2026 and beyond.

FEBRUARY 2025
A message from GEMBA Program Director Professor Patrick Butler and MBA Alumni Committee Co-chair Deborah Daly.

With 2025 already well underway, we are pleased to report that plans for our events and activities are also making progress.
Our events calendar will continue to build on the success of previous years and provide plenty of opportunity for alumni to join in at both in-person and online events, thus allowing us to connect with more of our alumni across various geographies.
Kicking off 2025, our first event – MBA Lifelong Learning Day – is set to expand our knowledge and thinking on one of the great challenges ahead of all of us. Join us on Saturday 22 March and be part of the discussions!
We will continue to have Thought Leadership events focused on key commercial, business and technology issues whilst also connecting on themes for social impact and purpose.
Our 2024 events were successful for their range of topics and engagement with alumni from varied backgrounds and career interests.
A key initiative we have slated for 2025 is to reach out to all of our MBA alumni across our considerable cohort groups. We seek to connect (and in some cases reconnect) with as many of our alumni as possible. Our committee members will be reaching out personally via LinkedIn messages to alumni, who we will invite to follow our posts on our LinkedIn page and join our LinkedIn group.
Details of our 2025 Committee Members can be found on our website.
Our ambition is to connect with our 4,000 strong alumni network. Our ambassador group currently represents 16 of the 38 MBA cohort years so anyone interested in becoming a Cohort Ambassador for their year to connect with your network of colleagues is welcome to join.
With much more ahead of us for 2025, we look forward to keeping you informed of upcoming events via our newsletter and LinkedIn page.
Wishing you all a successful 2025 ahead!

None of this would be possible without the unwavering dedication of our volunteer committee. To those stepping down at the end of the year, we extend our gratitude for your commitment and contribution. For those continuing into 2025, we look forward to collaborating on another successful year.

SEPTEMBER 2024
A message from GEMBA Program Director Professor Patrick Butler and MBA Alumni Committee Co-chair Deborah Daly.

With more than half of this year already behind us, we’re pleased to update you on the progress and events for 2024.
Events
Here are the three pillars of our alumni activities:
- To advance our alumni through life-long learning
- To advance our program through alumni and their connected networks
- To provide opportunities for our alumni to engage with community and impactful initiatives.
Many of our alumni were able to join for the first of our 2024 events – the Lifelong Learning Day – earlier in the year and we have continued the Thought Leadership Series with both in-person and online events.
Our mid-year event in June – The Melbourne Economy 2050 – was well attended and featured Mark Melvin, Andrew Wear and Dr Allison Stewart sharing ideas, reflections and recommendations on how to build a successful economic and socially sustainable global city.
In our Thought Leadership online sessions – a new format for 2024 – alumni have joined for interactive virtual sessions where guest speakers shared insights and key issues ahead of alumni breakouts. The participants delved into topics, worked together to develop insights and solutions and to deepen their involvement with the topics.
Our most recent online event – Impactful Enterprise – featured social entrepreneur, consultant and strategist Amy Orange sharing practices and approaches from social enterprises to help strategic leaders harness their own organisation’s potential for social impact. Not only are attendees learning from esteemed speakers about key issues, they are also enjoying the opportunity to work in new groups, connect with fellow alumni and capitalise on digital / virtual workspaces for idea generation.
There are yet further events slated for the remainder of 2024:
26 September: Networking for Change: Taking action on family and domestic violence, The Pavillion, Caulfield campus | An in-person networking event where we will also hear from key speakers who work to shape a society free from violence.
10 October: Melbourne’s Open: The story of our grand slam, Melbourne & Olympic Parks | This event brings expert panellists together to highlight Melbourne’s expertise as a successful host and significant player within large global sporting events.
21 November: MBA Alumni Thought Leadership Series: Digital for Good | Join us for the third online instalment of the 2024 Thought Leadership Series. Our facilitator for the evening will be Fiona Waters, a distinguished Monash Industry Fellow with an extensive corporate career at intersection of digital technology and sustainability.
28 November: MBA End of Year Celebration, Skyroom, Melbourne CBD | Join us for the End of Year event for a chance to celebrate with friends, colleagues, and new faces and raise a glass to 2024!
Connect
We also encourage our alumni to stay connected with our activities via our LinkedIn page and group.
We encourage you to share these details widely with your MBA alumni network and get them involved.
And finally, we are supported most ably by alumni volunteers of this committee, and we remain grateful for their work and support for our various initiatives over the year.
We are always keen to hear from alumni interested in being involved either on the Committee or as a Cohort Ambassador, so please do get in touch to register your interest.
We look forward to your involvement and attendance at our upcoming events and, as always, welcome any feedback and suggestions on our events, program of activities and ideas.
Kind regards,
Deborah and Patrick

APRIL 2024
A message from GEMBA Program Director Professor Patrick Butler and MBA Alumni Committee Co-chair Deborah Daly.

Welcome to our first MBA Alumni newsletter for 2024.
Events
Our 2024 MBA Alumni Event Program kicked off on 23 March with the hugely successful revitalisation of our Lifelong Learning Day. Nearly 80 of us - going right back to the class of 1993 - participated in the Generative AI Bootcamp at Caulfield. Led by Sami Mäkeläinen, we reviewed multiple cases-in-use and debated a wide range of critical technical, commercial and social issues. As we saw, regardless of technical expertise, everyone in every function, sector and walk of life can harness the transformative power and potential of AI.
We are excited at the prospect of bringing further attractions and opportunities to the Alumni Community this year. The 2024 Thought Leadership series will feature three in-person events and three online events, as we particularly want to ensure that we also meet the needs of our interstate and international alumni colleagues.
The first of three online events in “The Future of…” series was held on 17 April. Hosted by Dr Martijn van der Kamp and facilitated by Amanda Reeves, this event involved a discussion on how strategic leaders can develop a future-oriented mindset and build skills in the art of prescience.
The next live event is The Melbourne Economy 2050: Prospects & Priorities, on Thursday 27 June at the Monash Conference Centre, 30 Collins St, Melbourne. Mark Melvin, CEO of The Committee for Melbourne, will facilitate presentations and a discussion on the prospects for our local economy, which faces a projected population of 9 million people. The priorities for next-generation business leaders are exactly the focus for MBA alumni.
On Thursday 10 October, we are delighted to present a genuine highlight event: Melbourne’s Open: The Story of Our Grand Slam. Facilitated by Brigette McGuire GAICD at the John Cain Arena, several leading figures in Australian tennis and media will discuss how a suburban tennis club and competition evolved to be the biggest annual sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere. An extraordinary case study in global business, this event will undoubtedly be a sell-out.
People
There have been two recent departures from our MBA Alumni team.
Professor Paul Collier has stepped down as Committee Co-Chair and we take the opportunity to thank him for his commitment and contributions since 2021.
Alumni Relations Coordinator Tracy Collins is also leaving Monash for a new role this month. We deeply appreciate her work with us and the Committee over the years, and convey our very best wishes for her continuing success.
2023 was a significant year for change in our Alumni Engagement Committee, which changed in structure and with a renewed focus placed on committee volunteers. Our appreciation and best wishes go to the following members who stepped down recently but who will continue to join enthusiastically in our activities and events: Olivia Verschuur, Megan McDaniel, Erin Vassallo, Penny Ferris, Laura Parr, Burak Binatli and Renee Alima.
And we are enormously appreciative of the efforts and contributions of MBA Alumni Engagement Committee members volunteering once again for 2024. The current Committee is:
Stefan Smith, Drew Le Faucheur, Caroline Bommes, Jade Connell, Lachlan Graham, Ellora Thwaite, Solange Ardiles, Enrique Perez, Monique Chen, Madeline Tonks, Trent Miller, Chris Kolouris, Andrea Georgiou, Jonathan Matheny, Turan Kilderry
As always, we do want to encourage alumni wishing to be involved as ambassadors to please get in contact with us to help promote our events, networking and impact.
Connect
The 2024 Committee really wants to boost our ability to connect and inform members of upcoming activities, and we continue to promote Monash MBA Alumni dedicated LinkedIn Page and Group as a channel where we update our alumni cohort.
We encourage you to subscribe, follow and join the various channels. And please feel free to share these details widely with your MBA alumni network too.
We look forward to your involvement in our forthcoming events, and we welcome all feedback and suggestions on our program of activities and ideas.
Kind regards,
Deborah and Patrick

MARCH 2023
A message from the Director of the MBA Program, Professor Paul Collier and Co-chair of the MBA Alumni Committee Deborah Daly

2022 was a productive year for the Alumni Engagement Committee and its three sub-committees. We thank all the continuing members who are volunteering once again this year. Our thanks and acknowledgement of the significant contribution and commitment by our most recent main committee retiring members Penny Ferris (recent ex-Chair), Sarah Toohey and Tom Quinlan (Alumni Advancement). In addition, we thank Melissa Mendoza and Joshua James who take their leave from the subcommittees in 2023.
Notably, we wish to welcome and acknowledge our new recruits who attended their first AEP committee meeting in February – Stefan Smith, Olivia Verschuur, Drew La Faucheur, Sunil Rane and our student representative, Renee Alima. A growing number of cohort ambassadors have also volunteered to help get the Alumni Engagement Program messaging out more widely. To all, thank-you!
2023 is shaping up for some excellent MBA Alumni events – a mix of networking, speakers and also outreach opportunities all designed to encourage a vibrant and connected alumni community.
We kicked off 2023 with our cohort connector on 22 February – an opportunity to bring together our Year 1 and Year 2 students, many alumni from recent years and members of the Alumni Engagement Program committee to meet, re-connect and forge new networks.
Wednesday 5 April: The AEP will launch the Workplace Communities of Practice White paper by Deloitte, presented in part by Professor Pitosh Heyden of Monash Business School. Numbers are strictly limited for this event, which is hosted at Deloitte’s city office, and is by invitation only.
Thursday 20 April: An online event with Matt Frith, entitled “Unleashing the Entrepreneur Within’. Matt is the Chief Commercial Officer for MedTech Actuator and previously Founding Partner and Managing Director. We look forward to a bright and engaging 2023 and welcome any thoughts or feedback on the above.
Thursday 25 May: Lou Capparelli, Head of ESG at UniSuper will present on ESG investing at an on-campus event that will be followed by networking. UniSuper is one of Australia's largest investors in ESG-themed strategies, having over 10 years' experience in responsible investing and a long-held commitment to incorporating ESG factors into its investment decisions.
To complement our more formal events, the Community Advancement sub-committee will also be hosting a team as part of Run Melbourne where alumni can join in for the run / walk or stop by and support other alumni on the day while also raising funds for charity. Later in the year, a Donation Drive will be another way that alumni may wish to support yet another worthy cause.
To increase our ability to connect and inform our alumni of upcoming activities, we are exploring new ways to communicate and update our alumni cohort. We encourage you to ‘subscribe, follow and join’ the various channels below.
The AEP committee is launching a new Monash MBA Alumni dedicated LinkedIn Page and Group. This will be ‘led by the alumni, for the alumni’ and aims to increase visibility and engagement with you, our alumni community.
We are launching an Ambassador program where members of yearly cohorts are encouraged to reach out and share details through informal networks.
Director Update
In February we welcomed back our Year 2 MBA cohort and also welcomed our 46 new Year 1 students. Half of our new students are international, coming from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Iran, USA, Colombia, and Argentina.
As usual, we maintained almost equal gender diversity and our new students come from a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds. The range of industries includes retail & e-commerce; Investment/banking; transport/distribution; consulting/professional services; manufacturing; hospitality/leisure/travel; science/engineering/IT; and the public & for-purpose sectors.
I particularly thank Deborah Daly as co-chair of the AEP committee. Deborah has taken an increasingly active role in the AEP throughout 2022 and is continuing into 2023.

SEPTEMBER 2022
Welcome to the third edition of the MBA Alumni newsletter 2022.
A message from the Director of the MBA Program, Professor Paul CollierWelcome to another edition of the MBA Alumni Newsletter. The end is now in sight for our 2021-22 cohort.
Students are looking forward to the return of the international travel component, where they will visit Seoul and attend classes at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). Our 2022 commencing cohort are well into their second module and will soon begin their applied projects, where they work with entrepreneurs on commercialising new technologies.
Our Graduate Development Manager, Bronwen Fallows has completed her first year with the MBA Program and we have seen great results with many of our recent graduates moving into consulting roles, as well as other job changes amongst our students and recent graduates.
We are firmly into the recruitment cycle for 2023 and it has been pleasing to see the resurgence of demand from prospective international students following the COVID-induced travel restrictions of the last two years.
MBA alumni have generously provided fee support for four new domestic students joining the program in 2023. MBA alumni are encouraged to recommend potential applicants in their business and social networks to find out more about the structure and advantages of the Monash MBA. Interested persons can register for an information session at MBA Events.
Our next MBA Alumni Thought Leadership event is on 6 October – via Zoom - when Professor of Practice Richard Dammery will talk about the pros and cons of being a Board director. This is a topic that always interests MBA graduates and students.
We will soon be inviting registrations for the Lifelong Learning Day to be held on Saturday 26 November and sending out details of our end of year drinks celebration.
We have had some great alumni events so far this year and we always look forward to seeing our MBA alumni getting together with each other.

A message from Co-Chair Deborah Daly, Director and Principal Consultant, Impetus
Heading into the back end of 2022, we have a number of activities to note. Our recent July Networking Drinks attracted alumni reconnecting on campus after many months between in-person events. Attendees commented on the desire to have more of these types of events – a chance to establish new connections and join into already established networks.
In addition, a number of our alumni were invited to attend an MBA CAP event designed to meet with current students and build networks for life beyond their studies. Our most recent Alumni Committee meeting in July has also paved the way for some upcoming initiatives. We are pleased to announce the MBA Alumni Lifelong Learning Day on November 26, titled ‘Clear Leadership Essentials: Strengthening Your Partnerships’, hosted by the esteemed Professor Richard Hall, Deputy Dean of Leadership and Executive Education. This event will be followed by the MBA Alumni End of Year Celebration on Thursday 1 December.
During September, we will be seeking people keen to be involved in our many voluntary roles and opportunities. Ambassadors for each year’s cohort are sought to help keep alumni connected and help share details about events and activities. Volunteers interested in joining any of our three sub-committees – Alumni Advancement, Program Advancement and Community Advancement – will be invited to submit an Expression of Interest in September.
Any of our committee members will be only too happy to talk you through some of the ways to get involved.
Get in touch via the links on the website or LinkedIn and learn more.

JUNE 2022
Welcome to the second edition of the MBA Alumni newsletter 2022.
Monash MBA
Welcome message and update from the Director MBA Program, Professor Paul CollierWe are almost half way through this year, and time has passed rather quickly, but it does seem the worst of COVID may be behind us. Our MBA, Global Executive MBA and MBA Digital programs are all progressing well, and all MBA and GEMBA classes have been on-campus throughout the year.
A very successful MBA Alumni reunion dinner was held on 28 April, when we welcomed back alumni who completed their MBA or Executive MBA between 2013 and 2017. It was great to see so many familiar faces and Rebecca Burrows, General Manager Australia of DoorDash gave a fascinating after-dinner speech.
The MBA Alumni Engagement Program (AEP) Committee is working on a number of projects that will lead to events later in the year. Our next on-campus networking event will be held on the evening of Thursday 28 July – further details and a registration link are in this Newsletter. We hope to see as many alumni as possible, so please make a note in your calendars.
Global Executive MBA
A message from the Director, Professor Patrick ButlerThe Global Executive MBA program added 39 new alumni to our community this year! Despite a very challenging period of COVID lockdowns and obstacles, the class of 2020 successfully completed their studies and graduated earlier this semester. We look forward to having them return to join us for alumni events.
GEMBA alumni from earlier cohorts joined current classmates to welcome future students due to commence the program in September, as well as prospective candidates and other guests, at a recruitment event earlier this month. Following an excellent presentation on AI: Issues for the Economy and Society by Professor Rod Glover, we had a wonderful reception and an opportunity to chat further about the critical issues of the day.
MBA Alumni Committee updatesAs we approach the winter season, change is upon us once again!
Our Monash MBA Alumni volunteers continue to work through their planned objectives despite the challenges that this new 2022 perspective brings.
November 2021 saw us gather for a workshop to identify ways forward for the three subcommittees: Program Advancement, Alumni Advancement and Community Advancement. We outlined our intentions for 2022 and shaped some key elements to help drive better outcomes to our MBA Alumni Community; such as a focused engagement through social platforms like LinkedIn along with virtual and face-to-face events where possible.
A successful delivery of a couple of key initiatives keeps us focused and galvanised.
April 2022 was a key milestone for our Alumni Advancement sub-committee in bringing together multiple MBA Alumni cohorts for a Reunion Dinner and guest speaker. The event had a great turnout and high energy with many reconnecting and face to face for the first time in many years.
The Monash Thought Leadership events will continue in 2022 and a further opportunity to join with peers and colleagues and engage with new and compelling ideas and insights. In July, we encourage our MBA Alumni to join for an in-person networking event on campus at Caulfield on Thursday 28 July with details being circulated via newsletter and via this link.
We remain committed to shaping further events, topics and opportunities that engage, inspire and educate our MBA Alumni community and any ideas and feedback would be welcome from you, our community.
