Scholarships and fees

A scholarship or travel grant could transform your experience at university and elevate your research far beyond your expectations.

The Faculty of Business and Economics and Monash University offer a range of scholarships for domestic and international graduate research students, including tuition fees, stipends and relocation allowances.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit with priority being given to students with a qualification equivalent to a Monash H1 or higher.

Applications for our graduate research degrees are accepted all year, but the majority of Monash’s scholarships are awarded in the four scholarship rounds.

Monash Business School scholarships

Outside of the above scholarships rounds, the faculty considers high calibre applications at any time of the year.

Tuition, stipend and top-up scholarships are available from departments, the faculty, academic’s research funds and other strategic sources. These scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on the research project and supervisor.

Donald Cochrane Scholarship

Criteria	Top 3 ranked PhD students meeting H1E requirements
Eligibility	International & Domestic students awarded concurrent RTP Stipends or Monash Graduate Scholarships
Application	Automatically considered R1 – R4 Scholarship rounds
Amount	$10,000 per annum
Duration	3 consecutive years per recipient
Total available	3 scholarships annually
Paid	Fortnightly

Dean’s Excellence Award

Criteria	Top 10 ranked PhD students meeting H1E requirements
Eligibility	International & Domestic students awarded concurrent RTP Stipends or Monash Graduate Scholarships
Application	Automatically considered R1 – R4 Scholarship rounds
Amount	Up to $5,000 per annum*
Duration	3 consecutive years per recipient
Total available	10 scholarships annually
Paid	Fortnightly

Graduate Research Scholarship Tuition

Criteria	Top ranked PhD students meeting H1E requirements
Eligibility	Subject to meeting the admission requirements at First Class or First Class equivalence level
Application	Automatically considered R1 – R4 Scholarship rounds
Amount	$35,000 per annum 2023 rates
Duration	3 years and 6 months (full time equivalent)
Total available	Approximately 12 scholarships per annum
Paid	Quarterly to fees

Joe and Golda Isaac Scholarship

Criteria	The student must have accepted an offer of admission in the Monash Business School and their research must be in the field of industrial relations or human resources or a related field. (Only first year graduate researchers are considered).
Eligibility	Based on merit and research specificity.
Application	Determined and administered by the Department of Management
Amount	Up to $5,000
Duration	One-off payment
Total available	1
Paid	To a research fund managed by the Department of Management

Other Monash University centrally managed scholarships

Co-funded Monash Graduate Scholarship

Criteria	Top ranked PhD students meeting H1E requirements
Eligibility	Subject to meeting the admission requirements at First Class or First Class equivalence level
Application	Automatically considered R1 – R4 Scholarship rounds
Amount	The award provides either: An annual stipend $35,000 per annum 2023 rates or, Annual tuition fee for international students $35,000 per annum 2023 rates
Duration	3 years and 6 months (full time equivalent)
Total available	10 scholarships annually
Paid	Fortnightly

Zema Energy Studies Scholarship

Criteria	Research needs to be focused on Australia's energy markets to build adaptive capabilities of those markets and the underlying infrastructure to respond to technological change, government policies and changing consumer behaviour.
Eligibility	Domestic students proposing to undertake full-time study.
Application	Considered during R4 scholarship round.
Amount	$50,000 per annum stipend.
Duration	3 years and 6 months (full-time equivalent).
Paid	Fortnightly

Monash Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship

Criteria	have had academic careers adversely affected due to equity grounds; and meet Monash's scholarship selection process requirements; Monash English language proficiency requirements
Eligibility	Open to: An Australian citizen A New Zealand citizen Australian permanent resident Australian humanitarian visa holder
Application	You will need to specify in your application that you are applying for the Monash Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship and upload this supplementary form. Applications are considered in the following scholarship rounds: Round 2 (closes 31 May); and Round 4 (closes 31 October)
Amount	$33,000 per annum (+$2,000 per annum Monash Business School top-up stipend); and A relocation allowance for awardees who relocate to Victoria from interstate or overseas.
Duration	Three years and six months (Full-time equivalent)
Total available	20 scholarships annually across the University
Paid	Fortnightly

Monash Indigenous Research Scholarship

Criteria	You must meet the following criteria: Be an Indigenous Australian Meet eligibility for admission to a research degree and Monash English language proficiency requirements
Application and Eligibility	Applicants are required to submit a scholarship application and indicate that they would like to be considered for a Monash Indigenous Research Award and any other Monash scholarships for Australian Indigenous students. Additionally, applicants must provide a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate or a certified Statutory Declaration form to the William Cooper Institute. Applications are considered in the following scholarship rounds: Round 2 (closes 31 May); and Round 4 (closes 31 October)
Amount	$38,000 per annum
Duration	Three years and six months (Full-time equivalent)
Total available	Unlimited
Paid	Fortnightly
