Monash Indigenous Research Award

Monash Indigenous Research Awards (MIRA) is part of a support package provided by Monash University to support Indigenous Australian students undertaking Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees.  For further information refer to Monash Indigenous Research Scholarships.

These top-up scholarships help support students with living costs and are awarded in addition to a RTP Stipend.

I relocated to Melbourne for university and needed to support myself. With this scholarship, I was able to take up a research internship instead of having to work all summer.

As an Indigenous student, the William Cooper Institute has made an incredible impact on my student experience. I had help applying for scholarships and opportunities, received academic assistance with my studies, and attended social events to meet other Indigenous students.

Benefits

The MIRA provides a living allowance top-up (stipend) and is awarded in addition to a RTP Stipend.

Selection criteria

Monash scholarships are very competitive and are awarded based on your academic record, any research outputs and prior research experience.

If successful in receiving a MIRA, please note that the standard terms and conditions as outlined the RTP Scholarship Procedures apply, with the exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria above.

How to apply

Application for graduate research scholarships is done at the time of applying for your course, unless you are already enrolled. A single application is used for both admission and scholarship. Applicants are required to submit a scholarship application in order to be eligible for consideration and indicate that they would you like to be considered for a Monash Indigenous Research Award and any other Monash scholarships for Australian Indigenous students. Additionally, applicants must provide a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate or a certified Statutory Declaration form to the William Cooper Institute.
