The Diploma of Information Technology offered at Monash College leads to a degree in information technology at Monash University.

The diploma is offered in two parts. Part 1 is taught at Australian Year 12 level and Part 2 is taught at first year level of an undergraduate degree and Studies provides entry to second year of Monash University Information Technology degrees.

Students are required to complete a wide range of compulsory subjects covering all aspects of information technology. They include data management, networks and algorithmic problem solving. This course is suitable for students who:

  • narrowly miss out on the entry scores required for directly entry into Monash University
  • need to bridge the gap between their highest qualification and those required for entry to Monash University
  • Want an alternative pathway than Year 12 or foundation studies

  • want to fast-track into second year of an IT degree at Monash University*
  • have met the prerequisites in mathematics
  • have decided to study computer science or software engineering

You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.

Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)

Qualifications

Equivalent to Australian Year 11 (part 1) or Australian Year 12 (part 2).

To be accepted into a Monash College Diploma, you must meet the academic and English language requirements. You will also need to check the age, subject and course prerequisites before you apply.

Prerequisite subjects

You must meet the additional course prerequisite subjects which are equivalent to Australian Year 11 (part 1) or Australian Year 12 (part 2).

Part 1: One of Science

Part 2: Students may need to complete a higher level mathematics unit depending on destination degree as part of the Diploma for entry into the faculty.

Minimum age requirements

Part 1: 16 years

Part 2: 16 years 6 months

If you do not meet the age requirements, you may be offered a deferred place.

English requirements

Diploma Part 1
IELTS: 5.5 overall (no band lower than 5.0) TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: score of 46 overall with minimum scores: Writing 14, Speaking 14, Listening 4 and Reading 4 Equivalent approved English test

Diploma Part 2
IELTS: 6.0 overall (Writing not less than 6.0) TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: score of  60 overall with minimum scores: Writing 18, Speaking 16, Listening 7, Reading 8 Equivalent approved English test

Current Monash students

You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.
