Scholarships, grants and credit
Depending on who you are, what Monash course you’re applying for, and your previous experience, you may be eligible for a range of scholarships, grants, or credit against your course.
But what are they, and how do they differ?
At Monash we want to attract the best and diverse minds so that we can work together to help solve some of the biggest challenges humanity faces.
To help attract those bright minds, we have a whole host of scholarships available which involve payments to help lower the cost of study.
Our scholarships tend to fall into three key categories:
- Scholarships to reward academic excellence
- Scholarships aimed at redressing educational disadvantage (such as those from low income households or those who live remotely) and;
- Scholarships to help indigenous students overcome systemic barriers to higher education
There are also others available, and your best place to start is the Scholarship page.
The process for applying to these scholarships differs according to who you are and which scholarship you’re applying for.
Grants differ from Scholarships in that they’re more of a one-off payment than an ongoing contribution to a student’s study – but they’re still an important part of making sure an education at Monash is as accessible as possible.
There are a range of grants available, but perhaps the most numerous handed out are the International Study Grant, which aims to encourage applications from underrepresented regions and countries.
The process for applying for these grants vary, and sometimes an application isn’t needed at all.
Credit refers to an applicant getting credit for course progression by proving that they have already studied that subject in previous study.
For example, if you had already done one year of study in a similar course at another university and then transferred to Monash, you may be eligible to start your Monash course in year two.
