The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) is designed to help address Australia’s growing need for highly skilled podiatrists who can deliver comprehensive, evidence‑based care across diverse clinical environments.
Building on an undergraduate degree in foundational sciences, a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine entry to practice qualification will enable graduates to deliver evidence-based care to people with complex health needs, with leadership and management skills enabling proficient use of limited health resources.
Study your way
Integrated progressive learning
The program is delivered over three years and adopts a highly integrated, case‑based and learner‑centred approach:
Year 1: Build foundational podiatry knowledge by integrating prior science training with core podiatric principles. You’ll begin developing clinical skills through simulation and structured case‑based learning, with early exposure to workplace and interprofessional learning environments.
Years 2 and 3: Clinical immersion intensifies, progressing from simulation to practice across acute, subacute, community and private practice settings. You’ll refine diagnostic skills, orthotic management, minor procedures, musculoskeletal care, high-risk foot management, and interprofessional collaboration.
Research and Independent Learning
A learner‑centred philosophy allows you to explore your professional interests through an independent research project, developing capabilities in research translation, critical inquiry, and evidence‑based innovation – essential for leadership roles and future doctoral research.

Professional recognition
The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (M6043) is an approved program of study (Pathway B – Podiatric therapeutics program), accredited by the Podiatry Accreditation Committee on behalf of the Podiatry Board of Australia. Accreditation for Pathway A (Endorsement for scheduled medicines) is being sought in 2026.
Clinical placements
Our placements in public and private partner organisations offer you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in simulated and real-world environments.
You will complete a wide range of clinical placements with leading hospitals and community health centres across Victoria, including Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin, and Bendigo Hospitals, as well as Peninsula Health and the Kingston Centre.
You’ll also gain experience in integrated and community care through placements at Monash Health Community sites in Dandenong, Pakenham and Cranbourne, and Peninsula Health community locations in Frankston, Mornington, Hastings and Rosebud.

Entry Requirements
You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.
Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)
Qualifications
An Australian bachelor degree* (or equivalent) in a relevant area of study** with at least 70% distinction average.
AND
Must have completed studies in human anatomy AND pharmacology*.
*These prerequisite Human Anatomy and Pharmacology studies must have been completed within the last 10 years.
Human Anatomy: Examples of studies that meet the human anatomy area of study include the Monash units BMS2011, or DEV2022, or the Monash Human Biology short course.
Pharmacology: Examples of studies that meet the pharmacology area of study include the Monash units PHA2022, or PHA3011, or (MIC3041 and BMS3031), or the Monash short course Introduction to pharmacology for health professional prescribers.
English requirements
Applicants must also meet the English language requirements.

Extra Requirements
This course does not offer deferrals. It is recommended that you apply for the year that you intend to commence the course.
Mandatory Compliance
If you are undertaking a course with clinical or fieldwork placements you must demonstrate compliance with the following checks and requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure that the correct documentation is obtained prior to commencing clinical/fieldwork placements.

- A current NDIS Worker Screening check is required to undertake clinical/fieldwork placements in some settings
- Immunisation and vaccination requirements
In accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council recommendations, this course requires that you comply with the faculty's Mandatory Compliance requirements regarding immunisation and vaccination. These requirements are designed to provide maximum protection against the increased risk of some vaccine preventable diseases for students, patients and workers in health care settings.
