Design and Global Studies - F2025
The world's most complex challenges demand creative thinkers who can understand global issues and design meaningful solutions. In this double degree, you'll explore the social, cultural, environmental and political forces shaping communities around the world while developing the creative skills to make a positive impact through design.
Why combine design and global studies?
By combining design and global studies, you'll learn to approach problems from multiple perspectives, balancing creativity with critical thinking, cultural awareness and social responsibility. You'll gain a deeper understanding of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, migration and sustainability, while learning how design can be used to improve experiences, systems, products, services and environments for people and communities.
Through the Bachelor of Design, you'll develop the knowledge, skills and capability to create imaginative and effective solutions through interdisciplinary, studio-based learning. You can specialise in Communication Design, Industrial Design or Spatial Design, building expertise in your chosen field while responding to real-world challenges through innovative design practice. You'll learn to think strategically, work collaboratively and apply design methods to complex contemporary issues.
The Bachelor of Global Studies will expand your understanding of the interconnected world around you. You'll explore how cultures, communities, governments and organisations respond to global challenges and develop advanced skills in leadership, collaboration and intercultural communication. International study opportunities, including Monash's Global Immersion Guarantee, will provide valuable global experiences and broaden your perspective.
Together, these degrees will equip you to create inclusive, ethical and sustainable solutions that respond to local and global needs. You'll graduate with a distinctive combination of creative capability, global insight and problem-solving expertise, preparing you for careers across design, social innovation, community engagement, international development, government, communications and the not-for-profit sector.
