Arts and Art History and Curating - A2022
Set to transform the impact of your degree on your personal growth today and your career tomorrow, the Bachelor of Arts provides you with flexibility, choice and the chance to follow your passions. Across its three-part structure, you will complete Arts major studies, specified studies and free elective studies. Selecting from approximately 30 areas of study from across the humanities and social science disciplines, your major is a concentration of subjects that equip you with specialised knowledge in a specific area or field of study. Complementing your major studies, your specified studies focus on a range of specialist areas: global challenges, society and culture, ways of understanding, thinking and communicating, Indigenous knowledges, global experience, future professional skills and global leadership.
In Art History and Curating you'll develop a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of historical and contemporary movements as well as different geographies and cultures in art history, and build on your knowledge of artworks and artists. You’ll learn about the origins of art and explore many different periods, such as the Italian Renaissance to Baroque, modern and contemporary Australian, Asian and international art, the history and theory of photography, film and video, Indigenous Australian creative practice and ways of knowing, and more.
You will gain all the benefits of each degree course and be fully equipped to pursue a career in either field separately or to combine the two in your chosen work.

Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements (Domestic students)
There are many ways to be considered for entry to a Monash University degree depending on your educational background and history. The below options reflect the academic requirements for the different applicant categories (or the highest level of education previously completed) to be considered for this Monash course. All applicants must satisfy equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites or equivalent tertiary units including the English language requirements.

Semester 2 intake is subject to CSP availability. There was no Semester 2 intake in 2026 as capacity was already reached.
Current Monash students
You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.
Please note that if you apply for a course transfer, you should still enrol in your current course as if you were continuing so as not to jeopardise your enrolment in the Faculty if your transfer application is unsuccessful. More about Course Transfer.
