Arts and Art History and Curating - A2022
The Bachelor of Art History and Curating will educate you in all aspects of creative visual practices and cultures and will also enable you to build a high level of expertise art history and curating. You will engage directly with professional artists as well as with practitioners from allied creative fields including art theory, administration, management, education, writing, design and the curatorial.
Art history and curating will prepare you to operate effectively within the expanded field of art history, criticism, curating and cultural production more generally. You will be able to situate fine art in relation to broad social, cultural, environmental, historical and theoretical developments, explore forms of writing about art and visual culture, and study curatorial theories and practice related to the presentation, interpretation and promotion of art works in exhibition settings.
The Bachelor of Arts provides you with flexibility, choice and the chance to follow your passions. Across the course, you will complete Arts major studies and specified studies. Choosing from approximately 30 areas of study from across the humanities and social science disciplines, your major is a concentration of subjects that equip you with specialised knowledge in a specific area or field of study.
Complementing your major studies, your specified studies focus on building essential capabilities in four specialist areas: creative and critical thinking, engaging globally and cross-culturally, innovative problem-solving, and contributing ethically and effectively. Through these specified studies, you will develop a powerful set of future-ready core competencies - such as effective communication, critical thinking, and ethical leadership - to support you as you go out into the world to work with empathy and influence, communicate across cultures, solve complex challenges, and create positive change. These transferable skills and acquired core knowledge will provide you with essential attributes that employers value and will support your future career readiness as you will have the confidence to work across cultures, technologies and industries.
Combining these programs will enable you to build a unique graduate profile, preparing you to live and work in complex and culturally diverse environments.

Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements (Domestic students)
There are many ways to be considered for entry to a Monash University degree depending on your educational background and history. The below options reflect the academic requirements for the different applicant categories (or the highest level of education previously completed) to be considered for this Monash course. All applicants must satisfy equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites or equivalent tertiary units including the English language requirements.
Qualifications
To be considered and to satisfy minimum entry requirements, applicants who have not completed Year 12 or above must complete at least two single units at an Australian higher education institution. Applicants require a minimum average mark of 60% in their studies (including failed units).

Current Monash students
You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.
